RUBBER-KU Silicone rubber is an elastomer composed of silicone— containing silicon together with carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Silicone rubber is usually non-reactive, steady, and resistant to extreme surroundings and temperatures from -55ºC to +300ºC while still upholding its useful properties.
RUBBER-KU Silicone has excellent resistance to weathering and UV, and is often found in outdoor applications such as door and window seals. In contrast, natural rubber weathers very quickly and is not suited to outdoor applications. If your application involves exposure to the elements, silicone is the better choice.
Some notable silicone rubber properties include elongation, high tear strength, good thermal conductivity, and great resistance to very high temperatures, even fire. Take a look at some of the different areas where silicone rubber is commonly used. One of the most common uses of silicone is for construction.
